Welcome to Alora Ecovillage!
Welcome! Alora Ecovillage is the vision of a sustainable, off-the-grid community rooted in permaculture, creativity, and a deep respect for the natural world. Conceived more than 25 years ago, Alora was imagined as a place where artists, musicians, crafters, gardeners, and other creative people could live cooperatively while building a culture centered around ecological balance, shared resources, and meaningful human connection.
Unlike conventional developments, Alora was designed to be more than a neighborhood. It was envisioned as a living ecosystem that would be a self-sustaining community with renewable energy systems, community gardens, shared spaces, hiking trails, eco-art installations, and gathering places where people could learn, create, celebrate, and govern together.
The dream included a Community Center serving as the heart of village life, communal kitchens and bath houses, artist markets, yoga and wellness spaces, and a solar-powered stage for music festivals and cultural events. Nature-centered spirituality, creativity, and stewardship of the land were intended to exist side-by-side as part of everyday life.
Although Alora Ecovillage was never fully realized, the vision never disappeared. The challenge was simple and familiar to many alternative community projects: the people who deeply wanted this kind of life often lacked the financial resources to create it, while those with the financial resources rarely wanted this kind of life.
This website exists to preserve that vision and share it openly. In the spirit of open-source collaboration, the ideas behind Alora are offered freely in the hope that changing times, new technologies, and future communities may eventually make such a place possible.
Perhaps the world is finally catching up to the dream.
